Smith Island Flag - Antarctica

Flag of Smith Island Flag
Antarctica

Smith Island is a part of the South Shetland Islands in Antarctica. This flag is modeled after the flag of Brazil in honor of Brazil's entry as a polar explorer. However instead of a green field, it has a white filed with green stars. The four green stars represent Octans the Star Compass, the most southerly constellation of our skies.

In 1982 Brazil undertook its first official exploration of Antarctica. Since then Brazil has maintained a based on King George Island since 1984 - Comandante Ferraz Brazilian Antarctic Base.

Flag of Roosevelt Island - Antarctica

Flag of Roosevelt Island
Antarctica

Roosevelt Island, Antarctica is positioned along the 'Pacific Groove' ice shelf. Some geographers don't include the Southern Ocean as a true ocean, nonetheless three main grooves cut into Antarctica with the three main ice shelves coincidentally aligned to each ocean.

The ice shelves align by size to the size of their ocean of alignment.

The largest ice shelf - THE ROSS ICE SHELF - fatefully faces the largest ocean, the Pacific. The second largest ice shelf - THE RONNE ICE SHELF - by a lucky alignment faces the second biggest ocean - the Atlantic. And finally the third largest ice shelf - THE AMERY ICE SHELF - by providence faces the third largest ocean - the Indian. Too bad the third ice shelf doesn't start with the letter 'R.' Perhaps they could give it a nick name, the Richie ice shelf, but on second thought AMERY does have an 'R' sound.

At first glance the flag of Roosevelt Island may look like a Confederate Flag, but it isn't. The design was inspired by all previous designs for the other big islands in Antarctica. Like the Alexander Island Flag, Ross Island Flag, and Berkner Island Flag they all pay homage to the heritage of its founder, accordingly the discoverer of Roosevelt island who also christened it with its namesake was from Northern Virginia - Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd. Bryd is descended from a powerful Virginian family line that included James Rolfe and Pocahontas. Because Richard E. Byrd was born in Northern Virginia, the colours of Roosevelt Island are modeled after historical flags that had arisen from Virginia.

Roosevelt Island, Antarctica inner island was discovered sometime in the 1930s. It was named after the second Roosevelt president - Franklin. The colours of the flag are black, white, orange, and blue. The saltire is black with thirteen stars that represent 13 southern most constellations. The colour orange is based upon the famous Antarctica Flag designed by Whitney Smith. The white field represents the snow and ice, while the blue represents the colour of the seas should match blue Antarctica Flag of the Gram Bartram design.

NAVA 54 Vexibit—Greg Hersh: A New Flag for Kodiak Island Proposal

Greg Hersh presented a vexibit for one of America's largest islands, Kodiak Island.  Currently, the city of Kodiak on Kodiak island has the typical rank and file seal on a field flag (RAFSOAF Flag).  Kodiak City's flag features four creatures: a bear, salmon, king crab, and prawn.

Hersh proposed a Kodiak Flag redesign in the 'Good Flag' style.  It is composed of a field of blue and black divided by a thin diagonal bend, from the lower hoist to upper fly.  In the middle is an eight pointed rose compass of green with white fimbration, with the cardinal points larger than the middle points.

-------------------
As stated in the opening speech by the current ICV president Zeljko Heimer, this is not vexillology.  Specifically, creating and designing flags is not vexillology.  But talking and writing about a newly designed flag flag is vexillology.  Likewise, the countless flag designs that become are not vexillology, until another person describes the flag: as within the descriptive-data collection field of vexillology.  It is a weird corner that the founder of vexillology has painted himself into and other would be vexillologists.

Further, Whitney Smith's fame as the founder of vexillology is critically dependent upon himself designing one particular flag... for Guyana.  Smith owes much of his gravitas and fame for not doing vexillology.  Ironically, the world remembers Whitney Smith best, for his non-vexilological work, which he himself does not consider to merit the inclusion within the definition of vexillology.

Smith's key footnote to world civilization is (from his perspective) as an artists, than as an academic.  The quandry for Smith is that he will always be best remembered as a vexillologist for a "non-vexillological achievement" as the primary flag designer for the nation of Guyana.  It seems quite illogical that excluding the creation of flags as a non-vexillological exercise.  Yet, Smith was able to recognize his own imperfections, he once stated it might have been a better idea to spelled this discipline as vexology or vexilology instead of vexillology.  Unto this day, vexillology catches flack from spell checks across the internet, as it is yet to be considered a real world by the matrix of machine mind, maybe a change in the spelling and definition of vexillology is in order?

Eurorica the Subcontinent - a.k.a. Greenland

Flag of Eurorica
the Subcontinent Greenland

Since Greenland is so large - some geographers believe that it fits the definition of a continent. If not a full member, it qualifies as a subcontinent like India or the Middle East.

The flag of Eurorica takes elements of Scandinavia, America, and Quebec. The cross is of Scandinavian design like Norway, Sweden and Finland. The stars stem from the several American nations that use stars in their flags like the USA, Panama, Cuba and Venezuela.

Blue directly matches in colour with Quebec's Flag. Orange and white was chosen to match the color scheme of the Antarctica Flag designed by Whitney Smith.

The core of this subcontinent is Greenland. Geographically speaking Iceland and many of the 'Canadian North Indies'- Ellesmere Island, Devon Island, and Axel Heiberg Island. Part of Svalbard would be classified purely as a part of Eurorica too - Prins Karls Forland, Nordaustlandet, Kivtoya, and Kong Karls Land. Even a small portion of Russia's Franz Josef Land is a part of the 'Dwarf Continent' of Eurorica - Alexandra Land.
