F.B.I Aromorial Banner - Federal Bureau of Investigations goes Medieval

The design of an armorial is based upon the design of a shield in a coat of arms.  Thus the flag above is the armorial banner of the F.B.I.  In the upper chief position is a yellow area with the scales of justice.  Below in the field are bars of red and white.  Three red and two white.

The flag of the F.B.I. has a shield and typical American design with stars, stripes, and olive branches.  In the compartment area is a ribbon with the logo Fidelity Bravery Integrity.  The F.B.I. represents the most senior law enforcement organization on a mostly national level, that is followed by state troopers, then county police, and at the caboose are local municipal police.

At another local level are school security, who work for school district governments, and finally at the very bottom are parking enforcement and mall cops.  One thing mall cops and the F.B.I. have in common is that they are uniformed police who have the sacred duty to monitor their fellow freedom loving Americans, to ensure they obey the law.

If a law should be broken, they have to power to make an arrest and persecute the criminal behavior of would be evil doers, be it shoplifting or domestic terrorism.  In a way the F.B.I. are mall cops with superhero level powers.  Mall cops can only watch you in the real world within normal human parameters.  However, senior level Mall Cops (the F.B.I) can probe into your personal tech with impunity.

When you apply the heraldic standard of the F.B.I. to the Nth degree, what you get is the image below.  Here our F.B.I. "Federal Police Officer" agent is has an armorial banner and shield.  The green olive branch supports are echoed in the feathered green top.  The 13 stars can found on the shroud of the horse.

The armorial banner is type of flag based upon the pattern of a shield.  Basically one takes the design of the shield and puts it on a flag.  The flag above is a consequence of doing this to shield that can be found on the coat of arms of the C.I.A.  It is a red rose compass upon a field of white.

The official C.I.A. flag to the left features a white shield with the same red rose compass.  In the helm position is a wreath (headband) of red and white with an eagle head crest.  The motto can be found in the compartment, the reads The United States of America in red on a yellow ribbon.

Most American flags often retain Old World heraldic features, but maintain a unique and often abstract elements.  Since there is no official heraldic authority to codify or enforce flag design.  US flags can have unique quasi-heraldic designs.

Giving the C.I.A. coat of arms the full heraldic treatment, the wreath and eagle crest are put on a knights helmet.  In the image below a jousting knight with bald eagle crest and decorated horse is visible with an armorial banner.  Crests designs and colours allowed the public to identify knights in regalia during parades and jousting tournaments.

 

President of the Continental Congress and Articles of Confederation Period Presidential Seal

Who was the leader of the United States on July 4, 1776?  Washington you might say?  Nope.  George Washington was the General of the Continental Army.  In fact, there was a rich 13 year period of US history that happened, before Washington became president in 1788.  So, for the span of one generation, who held the highest political office in the United States before Washington was unanimously elected?

This highest of political offices was known as the President of the Continental Congress or President of the Confederation.  Long before the Confederacy and Constitution, the legal document that glued the nation was the Articles of Confederation.  The President of Congress was the precursor to the official President of the US Constitution.  This 'President of the United States during the Confederation Period' was the face of the nation.  It partly explains why John Hancock signed the Declaration of Independence so large.  It was not that he had a big ego, rather he was the President of Congress.

Further, this highest of American political offices had an official seal.  The US President was the final secretary who signed congressional documents to make them official, like modern Constitutional Presidents. But the Confederation President did not have any veto power nor a cabinet.  But it is likely it is likely that he had assistants, which would be more like a small drawer than an official cabinet.   Because these older pre-Constitutional US Presidents had to sign papers and such, an official seal was created to make it official.  The seal would go on to live in the official seal of the nation.  Just look above the bald eagle, and you can see the remnant of these overlooked American Presidents.

The Seal of the Pre-Constitutional US Presidents featured an oval design with thirteen six pointed stars arranged in the outline of a six pointed Star of Solomon on a disc.  Outside of the disc was a burst of rays is all directions within a cloud.  Further out was a space, within that space was the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM.  Finally the outer ring had a fanciful border that had halved rings of glory.

For historical contrast, the US Confederation lasted three years longer than the US Confederacy.  The US Confederacy existed for four years from 1861 to 1865, while the US Confederation existed for seven years from 1781 to 1788.

Historians keenly remember Confederate President Jefferson Davis, but hardly any can recall any of the US Confederation Presidents. They were:

3. Thomas Mifflin of Pennsylvania
4. Richard Henry Lee of Virginia
5. John Hancock of Massachusetts
6. Nathaniel Gorham of Massachusetts

Russian-Irish Heritage Harp Flag

The Irish-Russian Harp Heritage flag reflects that rare combo of people who just happen to be partly Russian and Irish.  Yes, they do exist!  And one of these persons is a vexillologist.  The flag is based upon the Irish Harp flag but with Russian elements.  In the upper canton corner is an Orthodox Cross, the statue is wearing a warm Russian hat and the harp has the colours of Russia.

International Medieval Combat Federation - USA Team Colours

There are contact sports and then there is the IMCF, the International Medieval Combat Federation.  In this sport participants don steel armour and dulled weapons.  Their objective is to knock down their opponent.  This is serious heavy duty contact, with a weapon.  It makes ice hockey look like rough game a tennis with foul language.

The sport of modern medieval combat is a relatively new sport.  Like boxing, all one has to do is knock down the opponent for a win.  Not for ten seconds, but just off his or her feet for one moment.   Somewhere between reality and a reenactment, these athletes face off their opponents with nearly deadly force.  Instead of stadiums, tournaments take place in front of old castles.

Happy π Day - The Anthem of Pi Day Delcared

Happy π Day 2020!

This holiday has been somewhat muted due to a viral outbreak.  Nonetheless, Pi Day is celebration any person of any creed, gender, ethnic, or citizenship can celebrate.  Somewhat silly, it is fun day to eat a pi.

Of vexillological note, the most famous imaginary sorority of π▲π (Pi Delta Pi) has flag that appears as a racing pennant in the classic movie of Nerdhood, Revenge of the Nerds.  The flag has a blue field with the Greek letters in white.  The sorority members are also wearing letters on their shirts.

The leader of Pi Delta Pi Sorority is Betty Childs as played by Julia Montgomery.  She is wearing the Greek Letters of her sorority.  The letters are dark blue.

 Currently, the sorority Pi Delta Pi only exists in our imagination.  Maybe someday it will become a real institution.  

Pi Day is honestly the Nerdiest of Nerd Holidays.  Thus the official anthem of Pi is the Talent show of the Nerds 'Everybody Clap Your Hands' song.

Kurile Islands Japanese Disputed Islands

The flag for disputed Kuril Islands is based upon the Nagorno-Karabakh flag with the shattered step pattern.  Russia has promised to return a small portion of the islands back to Japan.

Perhaps there is a way to save face for both sides?  A good trade is in order!  Russia could give Japan one of its Arctic Circle Islands and Japan could give Russia one of its tiny South Pacific Islands.  Thus Japan would join the nations of the Arctic Circle, while Russia would have her first warm water territory.  In the middle of the transaction, the disputed Kuril Islands can be split.  Thus both sides will get a win, an expansion into waters and islands beyond their traditional reach. 

 If the Russo-Japanese Expansion-Trade Peace Settlement Deal takes place, both countries gain something new!  Japan joins the club of Arctic nations of Norway, Sweden, Canada, and the USA while Russia finally gets a warm water port she has always been dreaming about.

Japan and Russia already have a tight border, likewise Russia already has tight border with the USA.  As Palin put it, you can see Russia from Alaska, or rather Russians can see Alaska from Russia.

Remember that Russia is no stranger to the area.  Russia has a long border with China and is neighborly with the Koreas.

No doubt Japanese scientists would love to have a permanent base in the Arctic, as Japan gets explore a whole new winter wonderland.

If Russia really wanted to sweeten the deal, perhaps a little slice of Kaliningrad in Europe could be given to Japan, making Japan a Eurasian nation.  Heck, even a Monaco sized slice somewhere in Black Sea would be nice.

 No matter the conflict or game, when you surrender you gain something intangible and when you win, you also loose an opportunity.   There are no 'no win' situations, because every situation is a win for all, from a certain point of view.

Alexandria DC Reunion Flag

The Alexandria-DC Union flag is based upon the Artsakh, a region in Azerbaijan that is mostly Armenian.  Basically the Blue Atari Spaceship pointed towards the hoist is the key element that represents a return to Motherland.  The Nargorno-Karabakh flag is the Armenian flag with a white Atari Space Ship that indicates Nargorno-Karabakh wants to become a part of Armenia.  Thus the blue arrow point indicates that the 'lost quarter' of DC should be returned to DC in a reparation kind of way.
 
When DC was first chosen by George Washington, it was perfect diamond.  But then the issue of slavery saw this beautiful 'dark crystal' shatter, when slave holders in Alexandria thought it was more keen to return to Virginia. 

The basis of the Alexandria-DC Reunion flag stems from the semi-official flag of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Yukhari-Bukhudarli Flag - a Counter to the Nagorno-Karabakh Flag

The Azeri and Amenian go together like salt and pepper.  Their names are so similar, yet they are people so different.  There were drafted into Soviet Union, but when freedom tolled across the land a deadly game of payback between peoples commenced.  Like Yugoslavia, a brutal ethnic cleansing left deep scars on Armenia and Azerbaijan.  However, the war between these old roommates received little notice in the Western Media.  In the aftermath, a divided land like Israel-to-Palestine or Cyprus-to-Northern Cyprus has put a barrier between to ancient sisters.

Officially the Nagorno-Karabakh flag has higher recognition as the other Armenian flag with an Atari Space Ship pointed toward the hoist.  Now Azerbaijan has flag with an Atari Space Ship pointing toward to fly.  It is the Yukhari-Bukhudarli Flag, that represents the enclaves that were once Azeri, that are now under Armenian control.

North Kosovo Flag

The North Kosovo flag is based upon the Serbian flag mixed in with an element of Norgono-Karabakh flag.  The Norgono-Karabakh element is the Atari Age nine pointed arrow that points towards the hoist.  Basically this 2 bit graphic represents a region that outside of the 'Motherland.'  In this case, the northern region of Kosovo is populated with Serbs who would rather be a part of Serbia, rather than Kosovo.

This flag is meant to educate and connect, provoking thought that all nations have parallel issues that can be resolved peacefully.   As the trite expression We are All Connected expounds, we are all connected to Serbia and Kosovo.  Remember WWI?  Hopefully this flag shows that no nation suffers alone.  Rather it is the hope that all parties involved, recognize that we are in this together.  God Bless Serbia and Allah Bless Kosovo.
