Maryum May May Ali's US Flag from: 60 Days in 2016 of A&E

In the first season of the 60 Days In 2016 a controversial drawing of the American flag stirs up drama in Indiana's Clark County Jail.  Maryum May May Ali, known as the undercover inmate Yazmin Brown, drew a colourful heart with a black foot above the 'US flag.'   Several women in Pod-F are deeply offended by the drawing, which they argue is a foot stomping on the American flag.

Ironically, daughter is like father.  Her father was Muhammad Ali, formerly known as Cassius Clay. Muhammad Ali's stance on religion and war stirred the debate on the US Military conscription-draft, likewise Maryum Ali's freedom of expression puts a spotlight on proper respect of the US flag vs freedom of expression.

The series took place in Indian's Clark County Jail.  The sheriff badge with the seal of Indiana is visible with an American flag mural in back of Sheriff Jamey Noel.   Also note that this show was originally broadcast on the A&E channel.

Here is the close up of the US flag, which is not your standard American flag.  First of all the canton has red stars on a field of white.  Secondly there are only six stripes of red, white, and blue.   You can also see an Islamic Crescent, butterfly, and sailboat.

The fully digitized version of Maryum 'Yazmin-Brown' Ali American flag is to the left.  It looks more like the flag of Hawaii.

This show puts a spotlight on the US Prison system and shows the humanity of the people incarcerated and presents us on what is more important: punishment or reform.  Although much better than it was 200 years ago, prisons need to be more reform oriented for those that want it.
