Greek Societies in Revenge of the Nerds 1984

In Revenge of the Nerds 1984 several unique flags appear in the film.  During the Greek Games festival hundreds of pennants can be seen flapping in the wind.  Some are decorative while others denote the Greek Societies with their organizations' colours.   Fraternities and Sororities are social clubs that are renowned for their exciting parties, social bonding, and enriching student life.  The founders of the Lambda Lambda Lambda formed by a rag tag union of socially awkward young men who were pushed together by the misdeeds of an arrogant fraternity.  The Tri-Lambs came about due to the arrogance and aggression of the Alpha Betas.     

The Adams College Greek banner can be seen heralding the opening of the Greek Games.  The faculty is seen here dressed in business attire, while the athletic director relaxes in a disrespectful manner as played by John Goodman.

Trumpet banners are seen in the opening ceremonies of the games.  The flags in this show are fringed in white.  The background is red and the writing is gold.  The writing is hard to discern, it would have been a good idea to outline the golden letters in white for better contrast.

The scoreboard shows who is winning.  Note that two Greek teams are never shown competing: fraternity Delta Kappa Gamma and the sorority Gamma Kappa Tau.  However several pennants and a sign can be seen waving in the background of these social organizations at the Greek Games.

Adams College Banners and Pennants from Revenge of the Nerds 1984

Adams College is the fictional University of Revenge of the Nerds.  The school livery is red and white. 

Here a student is wearing the school logo with school mascot which is Adam's Atoms.

Reversing the colours of the school is a common practice.  In this case the pennant is white and the print is red for Adam's Atoms. 

Here an athletic banner that plays on the theme of smashing atoms at Adam's.   In this case the 'O' of ATOM has been replaced with a standard model drawing of an atom.

Other Flags in the original Lambda Lambda Lambda Fraternity House - Revenge of the Nerds 1984

All kinds of flags appear in the Revenge of the Nerds film from 1984.  Flags are used as house decorations to set a festive atmosphere as social signal joke banners. The upper flag is the married signal joke flag.  It has a red background with a white ball and chain.  Not a slavery flag, rather it indicates that the persons here can not go out and party because she or he is married.

The other flag is the Beer Mug flag.  It has sky blue background and filled mug of freshly poured draft beer.  It indicates that a party is going on and persons are enjoying a festival for persons over 21 years of age, at least in the United States.  You can
also see the school pennant for Adams College in this shot.  It is a red pennant with the schools coat of arms. Another alcoholic flag can be seen on a bulletin board - the glass of wine flag.  It has white background with a red wine glass upon it.  It is visible when the pigs are let loose at the Lambda Lambda Lambda probationary party.

Fraternal Livery of the Lambda Lambda Lambda - Revenge of the Nerds 1984

Long before the television show about a Big Bang Theory, snapper chat, digital avatar uploading, or the mass hypnosis of hand held silicon laden communication devices, there was in 1984 the revenge..... Revenge of the Nerds.  More than just a movie about bullying and misfits, it was destined to become Art Inspired Reality with the formation of an actual fraternity modeled after this film - Lambda Lambda Lambda.   The first real fraternity of Lambda Lambda Lambda was established in Connecticut on January 15, 2006 at the University of Connecticut.

The livery colours of Lambda Lambda Lambda are black and white, which are seen as the black and white streamers. At a party when the Tri-Lambs are having their probationary fraternity party, the black and white livery can easily be seen. 

Coincidentally the Machine Nation of ZERO ONE uses the same colours of black and white, as seen the Matrix animated prequels.

Here the racing pennant of the Tri-Lambs can be seen with their supporting sister sorority - Omega Mu.  The colours of the pennant are black with white writing, while Omega Mu's pennant has a pink background and white writing.

USA Flag in Revenge of the Nerds - 1984

In 1984 the world of academia was rebooted in favor of the technologically skilled. And greatest of all "N" word movies hit Hollywood.  Revenge of the Nerds 1984 is the classic original "N" word movie.  The flag of the USA appears in this film several times.  Its most centered scene takes place when we see it hanging in the makeshift gymnasium-dorm above the robot and next to the epic underdog heroes of the film Lewis & Gilbert, played by  Robert Carraoine and Anthony Edwards respectively seen in the photo above

The US flag also appears during the Greek Council room.  It can be seen hanging on the port side of the Greek Hall.


The US flag also appears as an arm patch on some of the college competitors before the beginning of the Beer-Tricycle Race.  It can be best seen on the blue and red dressed members of the race.

All through the 1980s techie movies were unleashed into the public sphere before the main launch of the internet in the 1990s.  Other such techno-computer oriented movies included Real Genius, Weird Science, and War Games.

Chris Rock's South Carolina Heritage Flag Proposals

The winning design was presented to then South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges.  The flag featured the stars replaced with stars from the WB network.

 In a satire to replace the Confederate Flag, Chris Rock went to the streets of South Carolina to ask people what they think about different flags to replace the Confederate Battle Flag.

This is the Silly Saltine on the blue background flag.

 This the odd South Carolina OKKK flag.

Another absurd flag is the OJ Simpson with female Caucasian flag.

Proposals for a New Mississippi State Flag?

 These flags conserve the overall design of the modern Mississippi State Flag.  Instead of the Confederate battle flag you can substitute another non-offensive Southern Heritage symbol - like the Bonnie Blue Flag. This flag takes original design elements, conserves Southern Heritage, and keeps it modern.   

 Here the Southern Crescent is used. Nominally a symbol of South Carolina, but it is also a general symbol of Southern Values.  In this case its meaning can be doubly extended to reflect the new communities of the Islamic South, which in 2015 is an extreme minority.  Also note that an unknown, yet sizable portion of slaves brought over from Africa had Islamic heritage.  The most famous being Kunta Kinte who was popularized in the Roots television series from 1977, played by LeVar Burton and John Amos.

The original Naval Jack of the Confederacy conserves heritage.  It only has seven stars as Mississippi was a part of the Original Southern Seven.  The seven states that left the Union before Lincoln was inaugurated include: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.

This flag has a multilateral meaning.  The crescent symbol is related to the South with a smaller Bonnie Blue Star in the upper corner.  But it can also represent the portion of Islamic African immigrants who were forcibly bonded into American service, long before Mississippi was a state.

Also note the Starry Symbolic preserves some of the modern design, but diminishes Southern Heritage Symbols, if not for basic framework of the original flag. 

In the end it is a good bet that the Original Mississippi State flag from 1861 will be chosen.  If the people of Mississippi decide to change their flag it will mostly likely happen on November 6, 2015.  Reason being, it was 150 years from that date that the last in military service and official Confederate Flag was lowered on the CSS Shenandoah, on November 6, 1865, thus putting a final surrender and salute to the legion of heroes who severed in the US Civil War.  

Flag for the 13 Colonies Area, East of Georgia

The 13 Colonies Region Flag is a type of historical-geographic flag that represents the Colonial Area East of the Colonial Meridian, which is the most western point of Georgia.  This flag can be flown anywhere east of that line, approximately 85 Degrees West. 

Besides the 13 Original, four other states are in this area: Ohio, West Virginia, Maine and Vermont in addition to Washington DC. 

Flag for Region of the West of the Original 13 Colonies

There are 27 states that are completely west of the Original 13 Colonies, as defined by the western edge of Georgia.  Thus there are 28 stripes on this flag, seven in each bar.  The extra stripe is a fractional stripe that accounts for the states that teeter the line between the Old Colonial East and Western States. 

This flag can be flown in any part of the US west of the 13 Colonies Meridian.  

Thirteen Colonies Colonial Meridian Flag

The Thirteen Colonies Colonial Meridian Flag is a type of geographic flag.  It should be flown at 85 Degrees West.  It represents the most western point of the Original 13 Colonies, which is the most western point of Georgia.  An interesting fact is that four states which were not a part of the original 13 are completely east of the most western point of the Original 13; states that are essentially aligned and were vital living parts of the 13 Colonies include Ohio, West Virginia, Vermont, and Maine.  A few states teeter in between the "Original Flavor" and "The Old Frontier".   States that do so are Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida.  Thus these six states can always fly this flag. 

Cities that rest on this meridian include: Bay County, Florida; Auburn, Alabama; Trenton, Georgia; Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee; Louisville, Kentucky; Anderson, Indiana; Kalamazoo, Michigan & Grand Rapids, Michigan;

Emmaus, Pennsylvania Moravian Church with Peace Flag

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is located in Lehigh County.  It is home to a beautiful Moravian Church that has become a local icon.  This church can be seen on the local street banners.

In the foreground is a unique peace flag that uses peace signs as the center point of several flowers, in front of the Moravian Church.

The spirit of the Moravian church originates in the heart of Europe during the Protestant Reformation in the of nation Czech, which often sounds strange unless it is followed by "republic" as in Czech Republic.  It was in Central Europe where the spirits of Latin, Germanic, and Slavic peoples mingled to higher degrees than most places in Europe.

But of religious context, Biblical Emmaus is located in West Asia.  It was "on the way to Emmaus" were Jesus reappeared to meet two disciples after crucifixion in the Book of Luke.

Emmaus Pennsylvania, Open Flag

 The local business in Emmaus, Pennsylvania have made good use of unique welcome sign that is a standard.  It has a candle in a white circle.

Penn State flag on the Moon by 2015?

Penn State has some pie in the sky ambitions to put a robot and the University flag on the Moon before the end of 2015?  With less than half a year to go, maybe soon? 

Dharma Welcome Banner and Logo

 First there was Gilligan's Island, where a merry bunch was kept on an island. This was the first generation of the wonderful fantastic American Islands from imagination.  Enchanted by the rich and silly characters the show, it touched a timeless spot in the heart of America transcending generations of the television age. Its timeless chant was "Skipper!" as uttered by the lovable and hair brained Gilligan.

Then there was Fantasy Island.  Somehow the spirit of this island of American Dreams would pit karma and lessons of life and love into a nightly drama that warmed the soul and address matters that were therapeutic for all to see. Its catch phase would be, "Dee Plane, Dee Plane."  It was on this island, issues of the heart would come to expression and resolve under the guidance of a mysterious island - Fantasy Island. 

In the third great epic of American Islands from afar, is Lost.  Mature, serious, sometimes silly and oftentimes heartfelt. This island mixed up all the original elements of drama, love, action, fantasy with a heavy dash of mystery.

 Destiny?  Chance? Do we choose to be suckers or is their a higher calling for a spiritual purpose?  The running signature line of this fantastic island is "If we can't live together, we are going to die alone."

In the background of these pictures you can see the Dharma Logo and welcome banner when some of the passengers from flight Oceanic Airlines 815 are transported to 1974.  The Dharma logo would vary in the middle position to denote the status of each person as worker, security, officer, etc.

Mr. Cluck's Restaurant Flag from Lost Television Series - 2010

Mr. Cluck's Japan, Shizuoka Prefecture - Mt. Fuji

 On the Lost television series produced on abc, a unique flag appears during the final season.  The flag is based upon a restaurant called Mr. Cluck's.  Something like Popeye's Chicken or KFC.  In this show a person by the name of Hugo became thr leading CEO and climbs the planet placing his franchises all across the world. 

 Here the CEO of Mr. Clucks is Hugo Reyes, better known as "Hurley."  Hurley wins the lottery and is able to take over the Mr. Cluck's franchise.  Hurley was played by Jorge Garcia of Nebraska. 

Here the livery of the corporation's colours can be seen.  Hugo initially started off as a lowly front line man on the registers who took orders from the mean-hole boss.  But fate stepped in and changed his life forever.
