THE GEORGILONIA FLAG
A flag for Californians from Georgia

A heritage flag for California residents who hail from Georgia.  It is modeled on the California flag with a few changes.  Instead of a grizzly bear we have a snapping turtle.  Likewise the background colour is orange, a white lead star and blue stripe with seven white stars with a white fimbrated edge.

Dragon Flag from Excalibur 1981

In 1981 the ancient Legend of Excalibur enchanted the modern world and a Hollywood movie was made about this fantastic tale of semi-historical origins.  The long flag of the king features a red banner with golden dragon.

Delaware Republic Flag - California Style

THE D'CALIWARE FLAG
A flag for Californians from Delaware
A flag for California residents from Delaware.  California is like the great attractor of American Dreams.  Its also a state with one of the highest immigration rates from other states.  So in honor of those Delawarians who headed west here is the "D'caliware Flag."

Instead of a red stripe and red star we have a purple stripe and purple star.  Also the horseshoe crab is at the center instead of a California Grizzly.

The armed US State flags that feature guns

Guns in America?  Guns are as American as apple pie, baseball and the US flag.  And did you know that several state flags feature guns.  Amazingly the first state in the Union is armed with a long gun. Here are several state flags that 'invoke' the second amendment as a right to bear arms.

It all begins with the first state Delaware.  The county gentleman on the right wearing a green suit holds a long gun in his left hand.

West Virginia also has guns on its flags.  It has the most with two guns crossed in the foreground with a smurf hat in the center.

Michigan follows in the tradition of Delaware via long gun.  We can see a frontiersman holding a gun in his left hand and waving to us with his right.  Although he as a gun, he certainly seems like a friendly fella.'

The state flag also depicts a gun.  However it is behind the farmer resting on a tree stump. The Native American does not hold a gun but rather a spear.

Finally Wyoming is the last state to have a gun, and it's a hand gun at that.  It's really hard to see.  The man on the left has the traditional cowboy holster, thus you can't see the barrel.  Also take notice sometimes that this gun sometimes does not appear on some versions of the seal, depending on who made it.

Flags from Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles 1994

In 1994 the trite and quite dull tale of the blood thirsty undead was revived with a fresh infusion of insightful creativity and sparkling splendor.  The Interview with the Vampire: the Vampire Chronicles arose from the dusty crypt of Vampire Lore and was made a new, thanks the cinematic talents of Neil Jordan under the writing wit of Anne Rice.

One flag makes a noticeable appearance during the film - the flag of France.  It appears during a play.  This is where the film shines like the moon of a moon.  More than once the director effectively weaves the cinematic device of a story within a story in the revelation of the story plot-theme.

The challenge of the story within a story device speaks both to the audience of the primary story and to the audience watching the movie.  The amazing fact is that this alignment of character to the third inner story perfectly echoes on the theme without being abrupt to the story - it is a seamless tri-fractured point of view presented in one dimension.

Ironically the play has a Vampire pretending to be a human pretending to be a Vampire, as so eloquently noticed by the young Claudia - as cue for the less aware viewers of the film. The Vampires watching the play are privy to a secret while the audience in the film can only see the play from one perspective. The play with perspective hints at 'what it is like' to be a Vampire.

During this story within a story plot device the flag of France appears as a poetic insight on death is revealed to all audiences.  Upon the stage an artful presentation of the Napoleon on horseback who is accompanied by a colour guard and drummer.

Flags in Raising Arizona 1987

Raising Arizona was a 'Dra-comedy' with original storytelling combined with talented acting. The state flag of Arizona appears several times.

Here Edwina, an officer of the law, meets her future husband, Hi the outlaw, at the police booking station.  In the background is the state flag of Arizona resting in a tie-draped croat manner.

The flag of Washington DC appears during the prison scene in a photo of JFK on the upper bunk.  Although this man had no name he was the initial essence origin of Bubba from Forrest Gump.

Love is able to bring together two members on opposite poles of society - the law and outlaw.  In a similar notion to the genesis of Arizona was divided by the Union and Confederacy as a 'baby' when it was a territory.

Nicholas Cage is sitting here with a tattoo of Woody Wood Pecker.  Oddly this little mark would save his life.
Oddly a tattoo of Woody Wood Pecker helps saves Hi's life when he is confronted with the fury of vengeance.  The synchronicity of finding the exact tattoo on the bounty hunter gives Hi a moment of respite.

Star Trek - Into Darkness Federation Flag

In the Star Trek Into Darkness 2013 the flag of the United Federation Planets appears.  As in many other Star Trek shows it appears as the central token in a funeral ritual and folded in a military like manner.

The flag is composed of two colours - blue and white.  The background is white and a blue seal of the Federation in centered in the middle.

LQG Flag - Large Quasar Group Flag

This is a flag of the largest known 'structure' or rather concentration of matter.  It is as much a part of us, you, and me.  Just as we are composed of atoms and electrons that whirl in our heart, this fantastic collection of stardust beyond is a part of our collective 'outer' body.  We are the world, sun, moon, stars and as the scientific establishment calls this the 'LQG.'  No moon, no us, nor no LQC no us.

The flag of the first known LQG uses the colours black, white, yellow, and orange.  The star like yellow symbol represents a quasar, while the black ones represent black holes.  The over all orange parallelogram represents the galaxies and quasars that are 'gravitationally' bound.

Lunar Twilight Flag

Tonight the ebbing embers of 2012 fade into memory.  The last moon of 2012 shines its glow upon the earth for the last time.  Tomorrow we get a moment to pause and the day after tomorrow the first completely new moon of 2013 will begin its monthly cycle with the sun.

In honor of this transitional period when days are 2013 and nights 2012, here is a flag to mark the occasion.  Its colours are purple, black and blue.  And of course it has a white crescent.

Vexilloids in 12:01pm - short film 1990

12:01pm is a short film that fits well into the tempo of the 1990s.  It is the pre-echo of the Matrix and baseline melody for the smash hit Ground Hog Day.

12:01pm was a short sci-fi story originally written by Richard A. Lupoff.  In it a man is stuck repeating the same hour over and over.  It is a metaphor for life and brings into sharp focus the truly important things in life.

Although it may be short and harsh movie, upon deep contemplation its silver lining allows the audience to embrace and appreciate life in the now.  Barely noticeable where Myron begins his hourly existence a flag can been seen blowing in the wind in between two tall buildings.

Myron Castleman walks by a green and white banner announcing a community event.  Banners are vexilloids that need words, since symbols and shapes will have no meaning to others outside a group.
On the street pole are firm vexilloid city announcement banner that are often of a semi-offficial nature that announce events related to arts and entertainment.

Starring the classic sci-fi actor Kurtwood Smith, this contemplative movie is a must for those seeking a deeper meaning of life.

Flag of 3C 273 - The First Quasar

Quasars are a type of highly evolved galaxy in a class above our own. They emit high levels of 'invisible' light that scientists call radiation.

Vexillological Wrap Up 2012

Vexilloids in the Outsiders 1983

The Outsiders 1983 is one of the rare instances where the transition from fiction to film is successful.  The genesis of this movie was inspired by a librarian - Jo Ellen Misakian at Lone Star Elementary School in Fresno, California.  In 1980 she wrote to Francis Coppola to turn the book into film.  Amazingly Coppola followed her recommendation.

As it was in the 1950s, 1980s and will be in the 2020s youth are often confronted with an economic social caste system of culture and labels. As they adapt to 'modern' culture they often create their own counter culture to deal with it.  The 1950s Greaser is the grandaddy of all subsequent anti-establishment youth movement counterbeats before the Goth, Emo, Skater, Punk Rocker, Metal Head, Slim Shady, Hoodie, and Trenchcoat Mafia cliques.

The emblem of DX gasoline was originally an independent company that operated out of Oklahoma but merged with Sunoco in 1968.  Here Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise work as gas station attendants.

The film stars an ensemble of actors who became a would be male version of the Pleadies upon the imaginations of the world as it starred Tom Cruise, Emillio Esteves, Ralph Machio, Mat Dillion, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, and Christopher Howell.

No flags of note appear in this film but several vexilloid related items made a cameo.  Namely the high school letter-man jacket of livery and unintended streamers of disuse and mischief.

Two high school letter-man jackets appear, during the concession at the drive-in and at the rumble between the Greasers and Socs.  The colours - or livery-  of the 'Socs' at the drive-in is green and white.

The livery of the Alpha Soc before the rumble is blue and yellow.  Although lead Greaser Darryl used to play football with his football buddy, the rift in culture and socioeconomic status is wide.

Ponyboy and Johnny take refuge at a playground, what seems to be the worn ends of a volleyball net sway from a pole like a streamer.  This is a vexilloid-streamer of accidental-natural genesis.  But like any other flag or vexilloid it conveys a message.   In this case it signals 'neglect' or 'disrepair.' Likewise Ponyboy and Johnny are boys who are neglected by their parents.

Finally when Ponyboy and Johnny are on the monkey bars a lone streamer of toilet paper can be seen hanging from a tree branch.  TP on tree is a vexilloid-streamer created out of vandalism, humor, or as a silly prank.
