Flags in Mr. Wendal - Arrested Development 1992

In 1992 rap expanded in many directions.  In a positive direction we have Arrested Development.  In the video for the song Mr. Wendal 1992, a philosophical anti-ego beat can be noticed.  In stark contrast to Gangster Rap is the music by Arrested Development.

City side building flags can be seen hanging on the right side of the building.  They are nearly impossible to make out.

Flags in Oh, God! - 1977

Oh, God! 1977 stars George Burns and John Denver in a cinematic classic that combines humor with a deep philosophical and religious undertow.  George Burns plays as God while John Denver is a humble assistant store manager.  This non-traditional non-denominational take upon God plays well with modern new age notions of what God, is in the afterglow of the 1960s cultural revolution.  Note this is John Denver's only major motion picture in Hollywood.  After this 'Glorious' diddy on a modern  God, John went back to singing.

The state flag of California appears in this movie during the court scene.  It is on the 'left arm' side of the California judge.

A theology flag appears when John meets a room of established religious big wigs.  It has a blue field and golden image, that is unable to be determined.

On the right side of the judge the US Flag appears in front of the witness stand.  Here God reluctantly preforms a miracle in front of the judge and witnesses to illustrate his divine power.

Flag for UK Heir apparent - grandson of the Prince of Wales

A flag proposed future apparent King of the UK? How odd indeed.  Since science has extended the length of a lifetime, Queen Elizabeth is now a great grandmother of four generations.  The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, has a flag and his son William has a flag as the Earl of Strathearn, thus the soon to be born 'Prince, Prince, Prince of Wales' or 'Prince of Wales Cubed' ought to have a good flag.

Here is my fair proposal.  As any good flag conserves the original Royal Pattern, the red stripe in the middle of the 'garter' denotes that he is the grandson of the Prince of Wales.

It is very possible that Queen Elizabeth will live past 100 years, like her mother who lived unto the ripe old age of 102.

This makes the possibility of having a Prince of Wales to the 4th power possible since Queen Elizabeth will turn 100 in the year 2026.

A good name for the wee Prince shouda' be Kenneth or Malcolm. Its bout time a Scottish name be in the Royal Registry? Tis good chances the lad'll be King in the year 2088. Hows a King Malcom I of Great Britain and Northern Ireland sound?

Flag from Where the Wild Things Are - 1963

Here is one of the most famous simple yellow flags to set sail in the imagination of childhood. The flag in Where the Wild Things Are, written in 1963 became a children's classic.

The flag of Max's imaginary sail ship has a flag on its top.  This type of flag is usually called a masthead pennant, in this case it consists of a long simple yellow pennant.

The yellow colour is repeated in the sails of Max's ship and the colour of the monster's eyes.

Although not a flag, another vexilloid appears when Max shows off his royal power with a scepter that holds a yellow orb and has a pointed arrow upon its top.  It looks like it is modeled after the symbol for Mars the God of War, which makes perfect sense in this book.

Here the monster bows to Max, honoring him as King of Where the Wild Things Are.

Yaseen Kader at Cambridge talks about Flags!

Mr. Kader Yaseen expoundes on common view points in the flag universe.

Flag for Lake Issyk Kul - The Hot Sea of Heaven

The Hot Sea of Heaven is located in Tian Shan Mountains in Central Asia, specifically in the nation of Kyrgyzstan.  The flag uses the colours black, white, orange, yellow, and purple.  It essentially shows a reflection of the nights sky upon the Milky Way Galaxy.  The moon is a crescent, yet its unlit portion is covering up a portion of a star in the Milky Way.  The mountains are coloured different colours to reflect the high mountain ranges.

Lake Issyk Kul is essentially the 'Lake Titicaca' of the Old World, or rather Lake Titicaca is the Issyk Kul of the Americas?  This lake is saline and never freezes.

American Flag in the Video for Jermey by Pearl Jam 1992

Music is many things.  It can express the feelings and it is a form of communication.  But in 1992 it became prophecy with the song Jeremy by Pearl Jam.  Although affluent communities have a lot of material abundance, they are sometimes, more often than not, poor with matters of the spirit.

The song Jeremy tackled the issues of bullying and social misfits in the early 1990s long before the tragedy at Columbine.

Here the outcast boy, Jeremy, stands wrapped in the American Flag and in a pit of fire.  In another segment the children of his classroom can be seen pledging allegiance to the flag, but the flag is behind them.

If you have the chance to be nice to somebody, try it.  One kind act can cause a positive reaction.  Or give them a silent prayer of hope.  Or find one nice thing about them and focus on that..

25th High School Reunion Flags from Peggy Sue Got Married 1986

Is time travel possible?  Or is time just a construct of the mind?

No matter in 1986, America was given a wonderful trip back to the 1960s.  But not the sixties that of the "Free Love and New Grooves" but the sixties that were still governed by Eisenhower, before Hawaii and Alaska were made grade A America.

Several vexilloloids appear in the movie, one of the most unique and perhaps the most famous of all 'Cake Pennant' vexilloids is the 25th Class Reunion Cross Cake Flag.  This is one of the rare short lived vexilloids that you can eat!
The cake vexilloids appears as an offering to the King and Queen of the 25th High School Reunion.  The colours of the school are used in the cake flag design - grey and yellow.   The Yellow Cake Pennant Flags reads "25 YEAR REUNION" and the other White Cake Pennant has "BUCHANAN HIGH SCHOOL" in gray written upon it.

Another amazing vexilloid is the welcome banner at the high school entrance that uses lights to highlight the numbers.

Here in between Helen Hunt and Kathleen Turner is a regular pennant announcing the 1960 25th Class Reunion of Buchanan High, California.  If you forgot the High school is named after President Buchanan from Pennsylvania.

Things hardly every work out as planed.  Here Peggy Sue Got Married dives into all that high school spin of regret and dismisses it with a message of hope.

US and California State Flag in Peggy Sue Got Married 1986

Imagine if you could go back in time and address the mistakes of high school?  Talk to those people who you wished you could have been more friendly too?  Give it back to the jerks and big mouths that made life in high school difficult?  Love the ones that are no more?

Well, this is one of the many issues and themes presented in Peggy Sue Got Married 1986.  It is the third movement to America's 80s time travel cinema, the first movement was Somewhere in Time 1980 and the second was Back to the Future 1985.

But Peggy Sue Got Married is from a grown woman's point of view.  Less the science fiction, and more the matters of the heart are the key themes of Peggy Sue Got Married 1986.

Although the sixties are thought as a time of change the early part of the sixties were no different from the fifties.  However the cultural shift during the late sixties was intense as it gets.  Since the late sixties no other culture shift has been as massive as a change in the role of women and minorities in the United States.

Of vexillological note, the US and California State flag appear in the film from "1960."  Note the US flag would only have 48 stars on it, since Hawaii and Alaska were not yet included.

I WISHED I WOULD HAVE BEEN NICER TO YOU AND LOVED YOU MORE WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE....Peggy Sue

The Majorette Baton from Peggy Sue Got Married 1986

Starring Kathleen Turner and Nicholas Cage Peggy Sue Got Married 1986 is the most realistic time travel movie in the 1980s.  The methodology that Peggy Sue uses to travel back 25 years is solidly based upon science and reason.

Instead of using technology or magical devices, Peggy Sue is able return to the past...since I don't want to ruin it, you have to see it for yourself.   And as far was we know, it the most logical form of time travel possible.

Of vexillological note is the Majorette Baton.  Peggy Sue is a majorette and is seen holding a Baton in several scenes.  Peggy Sue's school colors at Buchanon High are grey and yellow.

One of the best time travel movies, it address the matters of the human heart - hope, regret, change, maturity, and love.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie for Theaters Film 2007

Flags and several vexlloids appear in the Aqua Teen Hunger Froce Colon Movie for Theaters Film 2007.

When the Aqua Teen Hunger Force is saved by Lincoln they end up playing old time wooden video games.  One game is a Civil War themed game, whereby the players must get their musket ready to fire at their opponent.  Here The South played by Master Shake has won the battle against a less than awake Frylock.  The game has basic Atari like graphics flags of the North and the South.

The Hunger force visits the past and a 'Spring Break' banner can be seen in an alien dorm room.  It features an island with a single tree and a purple martini by the hoist and a full beer mug by the fly.  In the 'compartment' it is written 'Koppa Phil.'

In the introductory animation it features Master Shake as the Pharaoh with one of the most ancient of vexillological items - the crook staff.

Archeological Marker Flags from Prometheus 2012

Archeological flag markers appear in the Alien 1979 prequel Prometheus 2012

Flags are used for military operations, parades, construction outfits, and even by the scientific community.  During an expedition to Scotland, little yellow flags are pinpointing and mapping the points of their dig.
Certainly all kinds of computer based mapping devices will be used in the future, but little flags will always be important markers to hold their ground and do not need a power source.

US Flag in First Blood - 1982 "Rambo I"

A special ops veteran has returned home and is treated with disdain as a deadbeat by a police officer on a power trip.  The arrogant lawman pushes the vet way to hard, and the vet decides to push back.  This the basic plot of First Blood 1982. This film illustrates the dynamic when the greater powers push too hard on the meek and lonely.

The Washington State flag also appears in the film when 'Rambo' is booked for being a derelict.  The film was perfectly timed in the post-Vietnam era.  Its popularity would result in several sequels, cartoon spinoff, and action figures.

US Flag in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975

The US flag appears in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975.  During a field trip when all the patients are on a bus, the US Flag can be seen flapping in the background.  The film stars Jack Nicholson as a troubled person in the psychiatric ward.

Top notch acting, directing and storytelling gives this film a lasting impact in the league of the Wizard of Oz 1939.  Of a wholly different theme, yet qualifies as a timeless story, that tells of the human drama of control vs. freedom.

US Flag from Rebel Without A Cause 1955

Rebel Without a Cause 1955 stars James Dean as a new kid on the block who has familial and social issues.

The US flag appears in the movie, most notably on Jim's first day of school.  Since this film was made in 1955 only 48 stars are visible on the flag, as Hawaii and Alaska were not yet official states.

The neat synchronicity about this film is that James Dean plays as James in the movie, thus when acting and responding to his own name, it is as real as it gets.

The film opens up the door about the trials and tribulations of growing up in suburbia, fitting in, and how teenagers in their Suburban-Eden have a tendency to test their limits and challenge each other in stupidity, in the name of ego/reputation. Since this film was made in 1955 only 48 stars are visible on the flag.

Evey kid who has gone through a school district transfer in high school can relate to this film and appreciate the outsider, insider, duality.

The school day starts with the rising of the US flag, here the other star of the film Plato is seen  riding his scooter.

The emblem of the school is here Jim accidentally steps on it and disrespects it.

Colorado and US Flag from the Shining 1980

In 1980 The Shining broke new barriers of fear under the talents of Jack Nicholson and Stanley Kubrick.

A small family is chosen to watch over a hotel all alone during a six month winter recess.  Remote, isolated and a bit a ways from society the echo of yesterdays bad vibes play upon the mercy of their imaginations.

The Colorado flag is best visible when Danny is playing darts in the game room.  The US flag is also visible during the interview, on the hotel managers desk.  The US flag is also visible in the grand entrance hall where Jack does most of his writing.

This film has a strange element of synchronicity because the Jack Nicholson plays as Jack the cabin-fever dad, and Danny Lloyd plays as Danny as boy with the gift of telepathy.

Note that Stanley Kubrick is the complete polar opposite of modern films that use visual charms and edits to keep the viewer engaged.  The long uncut edits force the actors to give nearly theater like performances and force the audience to pay attention and use their brain, unlike a Michael Bay film whose edits per second are like a coma inducing strobe light.

The Prison Emblem from Ricardo Arjona video Minutos

Coming in from Guatemala is the song "Minutos" by Ricardo Arjona.  The seal of a prison is shown.  It features a heraldic castle with the year of its establishment in 1898, celebrating its centennial in 1998.
