Semaphore Flags in Waterworld 1995

Semaphore flags appear in the 1990s post apocalyptic future movie that has madness to the fury max - Waterworld 1995.  During the assault by the smokers on a self sustaining atoll semaphore flags are used to coordinate the attack.  The flags are old and tattered in this resource and material poor civilization.

One flag used by the port semaphore is the international code for "P"-Papa which is a white flag with a blue frame, in his right hand.  In his left hand is the international code for "V"-Victor which is a red X on background of white, which is similar to the flag of Florida.

The starboard semaphore is holding the "J"-Juliet flag in his right hand which is a horizontal tribar of blue, white, blue - which is similar to the flags of Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras.  In his right hand he is holding the "K"-Kilo flag which is yellow and blue - which is similar to the flag of Ukraine.
As batteries and radios are hard to come by, communication with flags has become a standard protocol due to its cheap and energy efficient costs.

Here the crew furiously waves the flags so that a mad man in a road rage max should stop shooting.  But the gunner is mad to the max, and cannot hear nor see the signal to stop firing.

Atoll & Mariner Green Flag in Waterworld 1995

Several flags appear in the 90s classic post apocalyptic dystopian future Waterworld 1990.  At one of the trading atolls communities several flags can be seen flying off in the distance.  They are hard to make out but they can be seen flapping just above the horizon in this picture.

A green flag can be seen on the mutant mariner's sail ship.  Hard to make out but flags would act as natural message beacons on the water powered only by wind and sunlight.

Apparently when the green flag is hoisted a mariner is supposed to stop and help.

The Mad Max Fury Road Guship Boat Flag

In Waterworld 1995 a flag can be seen on the "Mad Max Fury Road Gunship Boat".  No bait and switch here,  this is an epic post-apocalyptic world that has the Earth covered in water, thus the name Waterworld.  This movie delivers like its name suggests, and it has lovable three dimensional bag guys who make you hate them while making you laugh.  Likewise the good guys are not all virgin white horse pure cartoonish goodies, our heroes and heroines in this story have ugly and not so nice irrational sides as well.

A severely underrated, fun, spectacular movie made before the dawn of CGI totality.  It is a fun satire from the past applicable to present time issues.  Waterworld is an all American classic that will surely stay afloat through the ages, unlike several cartoonish one dimensional CGI funkfests of 2015.

The flag on the gunship boat has a white field and blue area canton.  It looks like it may have once been a flag for a shipping company or yacht club.

Flag for people of Gypsy and Sikh heritages

The Jipseek flag is for persons who are modern mixes of Gypsy and Sikh heritages.  The Gypsy people are thought to originate from the Punjab area some 1000 years ago.  Sikh men are required to wear turbans in public; while the mystical Gypsy in a turban stereotype, which is no longer true, is a prominent feature in the American imagination.

Gypsies or Romani can be of any faith, most are Christian, some are Muslim, and a small minority follow traditional folk spirituality.  Sikhs by definition are their own religion created in a fusion of the Abrahamic traditions with Hinduism.

Thus this flag is for persons who have one Sikh parent and one Romani parent, or some degree of this pair.  Coincidentally genetic and linguistic evidence connects the Romani people as originating out of the Sikh homeland of Punjab, long before the genesis of the Sikh religion.  The colours of the flag are based upon the official Roma flag, while the central icon is a combination of Roma and Sikh icons.

Flag for persons of mixed Jain and Druze faiths - "Drewjainian"

The Druze and Jain are mysterious religions from Arabia and India, respectively.  This flag is for persons who have one parent of the Druze religion and the other from the Jain tradition.  Druze are often confused as being Muslims, likewise people of the Jain path are thought to be Hindu.  Coincidentally both the Druze and Jain recognize reincarnation as a fundamental belief, but their approaches to connecting with the divine are radically different, from each other and both from Islam and Hinduism.

Note there is a connection between the hand of the Arabic Hamsa Fatima and the Jain Ashimsa Hand.

The design of the flag takes its colours and designs from the official Druze and Jain flag but rotated on its axis 90 degrees.  The Jain hand of 'do no harm to a living creature' is white and has the 24 slotted mandala coloured with the four of the Druze colours.  In the center the 'ahimsa' be at peace is a white star reflective of the Druze star but it completely coloured white as the fifth element of the Druze colour scheme.  The white star and white hand denote the divine grace that can be found in both approaches to life, when lived in its best quality.
