Flag for the Tibetan Language

The flag for the Tibetan Language differs from the ethnic flag for Tibet.  It indicates language and nothing of political aspirations or Tibetan ethnic preferences.

RTG Plutonium Flag from The Martian - 2015

Perhaps the most unique flag in the movie The Martian 2015 - is the Plutonium marker flag.  It is pennant with metallic hoist.  The field is yellow.  It has a green spoke working symbol with a black skull and cross bones on the center.

Usually we see people in science fiction movies about Mars, planting flags on this planet.  But in The Martian we see our hero un-planting a flag.

The Swedish Language flag has a modified design of the Swedish National flag in the canton.  Language flags are important since the distinguish between language and nation.

Flag for the Finnish Language

The flag for the Finnish Language has a canton based upon the flag of Finland.  However it is modified to be an equal cross, yet conserves the colours of Finland.  Language flags are necessary to distinguish the language from a nation.  As there are native Finnish speakers who are not Finnish nationals.  The green field is reflective of the language flag, and green honors Esperanto.

The flag for the Swahili Language is based upon the flag of the nations were Swahili is spoken: Tanzania, Greater Congo, and Uganda.  The colours of the canton are green, yellow, black and red.  In the field are language field colours.


Alternatively the distinguished Swahili Flag can be flown by itself since there is no Swahili nation state.

Secondary Esperanto Language Flag

Another type of Esperanto Language Flag.  However it follows the 'linguistic pattern.' Note that other language flags have a field of green with vertical blue stripe separated by a white fimbration.  All language flags have green in honor of the now archaic and heavily western oriented language of Esperanto.

The flag for the German Language uses a modified version of the National Flag of Germany.  The order is different as to dissasociate itself from Germany.  Additionally German is spoken in Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.  This flag honors modern Germany but modified in order that any Germany speaker can recognize. 

In the upper canton is a horizontal tri-bar of red, black and yellow.  The green field with blue on the fly indicate that it is a language flag.
