Maj. Gen. Charles Lee's Plan for Colours - One Regimental & four Divisional Colours.  All                        with the motto "LIBERTY". 

 

1775: July 3rd 

Washington takes Command, of Provincial Troops before Boston

  

1775: July 4th 

General Orders, Cambridge. All troops inducted into the service of the United Provinces of North America 

 

 1775: July 18th

Scarlet Color, Prospect Hill, Massachusetts.  Hoisted Scarlet Color of the 3rd Connecticut Regiment (Putnam)               

 

1775: October 18-24

Plants for New Army for 1776:

- Continental Congress Committee meets with representatives of the New England colonies from October 18-22 and George Washington on October 23-24.  

- No mention of any flag in George Washington's "Writings" or Committee's Reports

- Uniforms to be brown with regiments distinguished by facings.

 

1775: December (-1776 Jan)

Continental Navy Outfitted:

St. George's ensign with stripes. 13-stripes red and white jack 

 

 

1775: December 31st

George Washington to President of Congress:

Estimate for tents, drums, colours.... at 15,000 pounds
