Geographic Swians Island Flag

The Geographic Swains Island flag is a tribar of red, purple, red.  Geographic flags of this nature have their colors coded to numbers.  The order of color to number is based upon the pattern of the rainbow.  Since red is the first color of the rainbow, it represents the number 1.  Likewise purple is the seventh color of the rainbow, so it represents the number 7.   Thus 171 represents 171 Degrees West.  The "West" is indicated by the white pentagon in the center, otherwise a yellow colored pentagon would indicate the Eastern Hemisphere.

There are two 5 pointed stars in the center that correspond to latitude. In this case 11 Degrees South is discerned view the two red stars.  Also the dominant red colored downward star indicates that this is a southern parallel.
